How to choose the perfect maternity dress for photos | Spokane Maternity Photographer

  1. Choose Comfortable and Casual.

Pregnancy comes with plenty of discomfort, so choose a dress that is comfortable. Your dress shouldn’t be too tight or have too much uncomfortable elastic. Maternity gowns had their moment, but there’s no reason to dress up quite that much. Choose a dress that fits you well and makes you feel confident and comfortable above all else.

  2. Has Sleeves.

I recommend maternity dresses with sleeves, any kind of sleeve is fine. Sleeves add structure to the dress and help conceal extra pregnancy curves and bra straps. There’s nothing wrong with dressing a little sexy for your maternity photos, but sleeves help ensure there’s just enough fabric on top that you don’t outgrow your dress between the time you buy it and your picture day.

  3. Neckline Height.

Choose a more modest neckline. Everything grows in pregnancy and most women become a bit more busty. Choosing a neckline that isn’t too low keeps the whole look of your dress cohesive with the mood of your photos.

  4. Colors that compliment nature.

Choose colors that are muted, neutral or compliment nature. Overly bright colors tend to clash with nature and look dated quickly. To keep your maternity photos timeless, I recommend choosing colors that are a little more subtle. White dresses look good on everyone in every location if you’re looking for a fool-proof option.
