  1. Schedule your newborn photos between 5-15 days postpartum.

The absolute best time to have your newborn photos taken is between 5 and 15 days postpartum. During the early days there are so many sweet fresh baby details to capture. The early days fleet on by so quickly that you may not remember how much hair your baby was born with or the sweet skin flakes that they entered the world with. Booking your photos in early postpartum also allows you to get the photos in while your baby is still in that pretty sleepy phase when they’re less likely to be fussy. And more than your baby being more sleepy, you are also going to be less sleepy. Parents tend to tell me they prefer having the photos done earlier, because the long-term exhaustion of the postpartum season hasn’t quite set in yet and everyone is still very wrapped up in the excitement of the new baby like their older kids, meaning the whole family is more excited to have the photos taken.

  2. Book the session during your second trimester of pregnancy.

While I recommend the photos being taken in early postpartum, I do recommend booking your photos during the second trimester of your pregnancy. This way you can include maternity photos as well to document the whole experience from bump to baby. You’ll also get all of your paperwork out of the way before your baby is born so that you can really just focus on your baby and relax after birth.

  3. Newborn photos can be done between 0 and 3 months.

If you waited until your baby is here to book, then fear not! It’s not too late to get those newborn photos. Babies are technically newborns anywhere from 0-3 months, so it is absolutely possible to still get those photos so that you can savor them for a lifetime.
